Concealed Carry Instructor

Colorado Concealed Handgun Training Law (CRS 18-12-202.5)

Effective July 1, 2025, CRS 18-12-202.5 sets strict statewide standards for concealed handgun permit training in Colorado. All applicants must complete:

  • New Carry At least 8 hours of in-person instruction including Live-Fire shooting exercises 50 rounds score of at least 70%

  • Refresher Course at least 2 hours of in person instruction including Live fire shooting exercises 50 rounds score of at least 70%

  • A written exam covering firearm safety, legal responsibilities, and self-defense laws passing score of at least 80%

Training must be conducted by a verified instructor approved by the local sheriff. Online-only courses no longer qualify. This law ensures consistent, accountable, and hands-on training for responsible concealed carry.

    Colorado‑approved classroom instruction

    Firearm safety fundamentals

    Legal overview of Colorado concealed carry laws

    Live-fire qualification

    Certificate of completion recognized by Colorado sheriffs

  • Renewal Course

    Course fee $40.00

    A $10 per vehicle range fee is paid directly at the Logan County Sports Shooting Complex

    Course is always the 2nd Saturday of every month from 9:30am-1:30pm including live fire

    Class is held at the Fort Morgan Public Library

    Live‑fire qualification at the Logan County Sports Shooting Complex

    This course includes:

    Refresher classroom instruction

    Safety review

    Legal updates

    Live‑fire qualification

    Certificate of completion recognized by Colorado Sheriffs

    Handgun in good working condition must keep in your vehicle secured in accordance with Colorado Laws

    Two Magazines

    Outside the waistband holster only

    100 rounds of ammunition DO NOT bring into the class

    Eye and ear protection

    Water and snacks

  • Range Safety Rules

    ALWAYS keep your gun pointed in a safe direction

    ALWAYS keep your finger of the trigger until ready to shoot

    ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use

  • After Course Completion

    You will receive a certificate of completion. Next steps:

Instructor Biography

Kevin is the founder of High Plains CCW Academy, a trusted resource for concealed carry training in Colorado. A cancer survivor and former business owner, he brings resilience, discipline, and decades of real-world experience to every class.

Kevin’s background includes ten years of service in law enforcement and proud service as a United States Marine Corps veteran. These roles instilled in him a mission-focused mindset, a commitment to public safety, and a deep respect for the responsibilities that come with carrying a firearm.

He is a certified and sheriff-verified concealed handgun instructor under Colorado CRS 18-12-202.7. His courses meet all state requirements for concealed carry training and are designed to ensure students leave confident, competent, and compliant with the law.

As an avid Second Amendment rights advocate, Kevin emphasizes not only technical proficiency but also the civic duty and personal accountability inherent in firearms ownership. His instruction blends legal clarity, practical application, and a no-nonsense approach to safety — equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to responsibly exercise their rights.
